February 2, 2009 If I seem to have become a charter member of the "slow blog" movement, it's because my wife is due with a baby boy in 2 days, and blogging apparently doesn't count as "nesting". Or at least, is of lower priority than having a working toilet in the house.
My poor wife is way pregnant, has a hurty hip, and now crawling around after our 2 year-old. And me, I'm "at work", holding on to what little leave I have until the baby comes. So here's to her, and to riding whilst pregnant. The ride below, at 8+ months, had to be cut short due to her knees hitting the wee boy, and that on an very upright bike. I guess that's when you know you're too far along to bike. Our friend Catherine biked to work until the week before her due date, but she had a recumbent, which helps with the belly clearance issue. Any other good pregnant biking tales out there?
Come to think of it ... this is a very niche website just waiting to happen. PreggoVelo.com, anyone? Ovulation Cycle Chic? Family Biking in a Family Way? Knocked-up Ladies on Knock-out Bikes? I'll stop now.

We have two more months to go and my wife is still biking. We bought an upright bike as soon as she started to get the bump... we'll see how long she's able to last. Tonight she's off to Yoga again- a 45 minute ride!
Go Missy!!
Go Kim! My sis-in-law biked all over Corvallis right up until the week before she had both of her boys. Her bike was a run-of-the-mill hybrid commuter.
To think I was told biking was dangerous during my pregnancy!
Congratulations on the future arrival. I look forward to reading about biking with an infant!
Juju, just checking you out for the first time.....this is just what I need. I biked up until the last week of #3 and only stopped because my peeps(midwife & doc) were telling me that I was too active and needed to slow down! Upright was fine, but being tall helps:) Congrats on the new one to come. See you in the hood.
Hey Karen! Let's go for a ride with the new expanded crew sometime in the next few weeks, while I'm away from work ... That wasn't your gorgeous red bakfiets I tagged the other day, was it?
To think that my doctor told me "absolutely no biking" while pregnant last year - and later berated me for not being active enough!
I've vowed that I'm not going a second consecutive year without biking. I WILL be out there on the road this summer - without baby if I must.
Way to go everyone! Currently 7.5 months pregnant and still riding during my lunch hour. As others did, I had to switch to a more upright "town" bike at about 6 months. The bump is now being bumped again even on the upright. We'll how long I can last. Thanks for the encouraging stories!
Hello!
I am actually pregnant with our first child (a baby girl!) and got back on my bike at 27 weeks pregnant. I wrote a post about it on my blog detailing the benefits of it. I am currently 31 weeks and can't wait for my biek to get back from the shop. I'm getting it tuned up and customized to be more cargo friendly and more comfy (a huge issue for me during my pregnancy and B loves riding my pelvic floor...). I love biking while pregnant and am actually going to put a chapter in my ebook that I am working on about real moms (and support people) experiences of biking while pregnant and after the baby is born. I know this may be a bit wierd to ask in a comment but do you think you may be willing to help me by allowing me to share some of your experiences as well? Like I said, this is my first baby so I don't have a ton of experience at biking with kids or while pregnant yet.
